It is the second day of the Super Eight at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and there is Group 1 action between India and Afghanistan on Thursday, June 20 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The match is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. EST and will be broadcast on Willow TV. Fans looking to watch can do so through FuboTV or DirecTV Stream, both of which offer a free trial. SlingTV doesn’t offer a free trial but does have other promotional offers available.
India has been among the class of the tournament so far, grabbing victories in three of its four Group Stage matches, with the other being abandoned. It faces Bangladesh and then Australia to close out the Super Eight.
Afghanistan won its first three matches of the tournament to lock up a spot in Super Eight and to advance out of Group C. It is coming off a disastrous loss to the West Indies where it was defeated by 104 runs. It will face Australia and then Bangladesh as it tries to advance to the semifinals.
After failing to advance out of the Group Stage, some changes appear to be coming for New Zealand’s squad.
According to a story in the Associated Press, captain Kane Williamson rejected a new contract with the nation and will be relinquishing the captaincy.
“Helping push the team forward across the formats is something I’m very passionate about and something I want to keep contributing towards,” Williamson said in a statement Wednesday. “However, pursuing an overseas opportunity during the New Zealand summer means I’m unable to accept a central contract offer.”
New Zealand went 2-2 at ICC T20 World Cup to finish third in Group C with the losses coming to the West Indies and Afghanistan.
“NZC has a strong preference to select centrally-contracted players for the Black Caps. However we’re happy to make an exception for our greatest ever batter, especially as he remains so committed to the team,” New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink said.
